Frequently Asked Questions

Q:  What is CBT?
A:  CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) is a problem-focused, action-oriented style of talk therapy that teaches individuals practical ways to identify, challenge and replace unhelpful response patterns with adaptive, healthy thoughts, feelings and behavioral patterns to reach one’s desired goals. CBT teaches individuals to utilize these skills on their own with less and less reliance on the therapist over time.

Q:  What is DBT?
A:  DBT (Dialectical Behavioral Therapy) is a modified type of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). Its main goals are to teach people how to live in the moment, develop healthy ways to cope with stress, regulate their emotions, and improve their relationships with others.

Q:  How long will I be in therapy?
A:  Therapy is an individual choice and duration of therapy relies on many case-by-case factors. Generally speaking, brief therapy to treat day-to-day challenges typically lasts 10-12 sessions. Those with more complex issues could benefit from therapy for 1 or more years. Ultimately, individuals and circumstances drive the duration of treatment, this will be discussed in your first session.

Q:  Do you accept insurance?
A:  Yes, I am currently contracted with AETNA, United Healthcare, Optum, Cigna, and some EAP. I do however for out of pocket clients, upon request, provide individuals with a monthly "superbill" to submit to insurance for reimbursement. It is highly recommended that individuals contact their insurance company to confirm reimbursement and reimbursement rates.

Q:  What is a "SuperBill"?
A:  A superbill is a detailed document that allows clients to bill their insurance company directly. It includes information similar to an insurance claim form, such as the date of the service provided, procedure codes and a total balance due.

Q:  What are the fees for services?
A:  Fees vary depending on the services requested. Initial consultation (15 minute phone call) is free of charge to determine needs and fit. Individual therapy sessions (45-50 minutes) are $220 per session. Couples therapy sessions (60 minutes) are $240 per session. Family therapy sessions (60 minutes) are $240 per session. Subsequently, when sessions require more time, the rate is $25 per 15 minutes beyond above mentioned times/rates. Anytime under 15 minutes are not charged. I do offer a sliding to a select number of individuals based on financial need and can be discussed in the first session. With that said, I can only provide a sliding scale to a percentage of my practice, therefore it may not always be an option.

Q:  What are my payment options?
A:  During the intake process (pre-therapy sessions) you will be provided legal documents to provide credit card information, which will automatically bill upon the completion of the session. Credit card information is stored securely on a HIPAA compliant platform, never shared and in fact are never fully disclosed to the therapist. I do require a credit card to be maintained on file.

Q:  What if I miss my appointment?
A:  If scheduled appointments are canceled within 24 hours of the appointment time, there is no charge and the appointment can be rescheduled. If appointments are canceled without at least 24 hours notice, it is considered a "late cancellation" and will be charged at the full session rate. If an individual does not contact or show to a scheduled appointment it is considered a "no show" and will be charged at the full session rate. The first "no show" or "late cancel" are not charged as a courtesy, with the understanding that "life happens". Therapy can only be effective with consistency, therefore if an individual is consistently "late canceling" or "no showing", therapy may be terminated.
